Collection: Little Toy

This quirky, square-bodied figure — part human, part doll — carries the wide-eyed innocence of Guan Wei’s younger self. Created in the early 1990s, it reflects the artist’s first steps out of a closed, familiar world into the unknown landscape of Australia. Surrounded by strange symbols, unfamiliar rhythms, and foreign languages, Guan Wei found himself curious, awkward, yet eager to explore everything fresh.

In these works, acupuncture points meet Western objects, and Chinese characters share space with English words. Little Toy captures that moment of cultural collision — playful yet shy, humorous yet searching — a small soul learning to walk at the crossroads of East and West, slowly opening its eyes to the world.
